A Sunday in Ronda, Spain

I'm on my way home from a meeting in Gibraltar, so stopped off for a day in this southern Spanish town nestled in Andalusia's rugged Serrania de Ronda mountains. It is famous for many things, but perhaps most of all for Spain's oldest bullfighting ring, the Plaza de Toros. Ernest Hemingway hung out here, of course, along with Orson Welles and Rainer Maria Rilke. They are all gone now, but tourists flock to Ronda by the thousands even this late in the season. You can't blame them, however: No one can expect to have a place this beautiful all to themselves. The photos above hardly do justice, but they are my modest offering.

Very jealous. And you got Gibraltar without the cloud. Remarkable. Did you go to La Pileta.
What a wonderful summer you have had.

Good to hear you enjoyed your time in Ronda, but it's a shame you didn't have more time to spend here, in what is probably one of the most significant archeologically important districts of Spain.

Next time you're here look me up and I'll introduce you to the archeologists at Ronda Museum. Some very exciting paleolithic and neolithic discoveries have been made recently, aside from what is already known at Pileta and Acinipo.

Thanks very much, Ronda Today, I regretted not being able to stay longer but fell in love with the town; am planning to return with my wife soon and will definitely get in touch!
